Gabriola
So, this mostly neglected blog was pretty much abandoned over the summer, but I have an excuse! We’ve relocated to Gabriola Island. Actually, I’m not sure that’s much of an excuse, but I need something to blame my laziness on. Anyways, we’ve rented a small cabin for the winter, so we’ll be living ashore for the first time in almost five years. East Bay
Last weekend we headed over to East Bay on Gambier Island. We met up with Vince and Laura on Merganser and the kids spent their first night at anchor. Here they are hanging out in the cockpit with their dad. And waving (okay, not waving, but at least looking) goodbye as I paddle off in the kayak. Sailing
We finally got out for our first actual sail of the year (with the sails up, rather than the motor running). We took some extra hands along to make things easier and our friend Cindy took some photos.
Reading
With no tv we do a lot of reading around here. West likes to flip through a magazine now and then When there’s heavy reading to be done Nyah will help out a bit And both can appreciate a good character-driven work with a strong story arc and meaningful social commentary
First real boat trip
The new crew made their first real boat trip yesterday when we came over to Bowen Island for a few days. We rigged some attachment points so the carseats could be secured below, giving us a safe place to put the kids while underway. There was a strong enough northwesterly to raise whitecaps on English Bay, but it was a beautiful sunny day and as a calm as a lake once we got into the lee of Bowen. Ready for…

Superbaby
Babies are supposed to spend some time each day on their tummies to strengthen their neck muscles and whatnot. This is no problem for Nyah, but West hates it, for him tummy time is akin to a stint in the gulags. So, West usually strengthens his neck muscles as his intrepid alter ego: Superbaby! Superbaby flies around the boat checking for evildoers in all areas, on nice days he will even pop out of the hatch and take a quick…
Training
Nyah and West have embarked on a regimen to train them to sit up. Â In this situation having two babies can be handy since they can be propped up teepee style to improve overall sitting times.
