Saltspring
This past weekend we had a little holiday down to Saltspring on the boat. Despite being nervous about how the kids would handle it, everything went really well. They slept ok, they even napped, and they were fine with 5 hours of boat travel each way. On the way down we had to motor and the kids enjoyed being out in the cockpit. Animal Bands
I have to preface this by saying that I’m not really a big fan of screens for entertaining kids. We don’t have a tv (although we do have computers, which really are not that much different) and I like the computer a lot. I know makes me a hypocrite (and I’m sure the kids will be happy to point this out to me soon), but regardless, deep down inside I firmly believe that it rots your brain. ANYways . ….
For the birds
It looks like Nyah needs to get more exposure to song birds and less exposure to sea birds. For West there’s very little hope either way.
Tofino
For the easter weekend us and a bunch of friends from Vancouver rented a place in Tofino. We had a great time and were lucky enough to get a couple of rare sunny days on the beach. Inspecting some recently made pictograms. Headed off on a hike. Traffic jam in the logs (I’m not sure why we chose to dress one kid in beach-camo and the other in hunting-season-safety wear). Look out sandcastles!
Drumbeg Morning
Drumbeg Park at the south end of Gabriola is a fantastic place; meadows, beaches, trails, it has it all, and I think it might be the first place on the island that spring reaches. Look Ma! a stick. Look Ma! Another stick. The biggest stick of all I go wherever gravity takes me! . . . or wherever Dad takes me.

waterproofing
The winter weather has been putting a bit of a damper on our outside time, so yesterday we invested in a pair of XXXS waterproof coveralls. The kids look a bit like a pair of ambulatory marshmallows, but going outside in the rain was a big hit.
